Athlete Of The Week - Shelby Cordova
June 30, 2010
By
The same tenacity and skill Shelby Cordova showcased at the prep junior varsity level for Oakdale High’s softball program has seen light in summer action with the Under-16 California Grapettes. She earns Athlete of the Week honor from The Leader for her efforts.
With Escalon pitcher Morgan Eisenga sidelined via injury, Cordova was leaned on heavily in the Grapettes’ Greater San Joaquin Metro Championships contests in Stockton, June 18-20.
Cordova saw appearances in five games and tossed an incredible 30 innings. Her accuracy limited opposing at-bats and paved the way for a 4-1 showing and Metro championship.
The win has propelled the Grapettes to an automatic qualification in the ASA Nationals in Texas next month.
