Athlete of the Week - Charlie Gilstrap

Oakdale’s 215-pound senior wrestler Charlie Gilstrap led Oakdale’s varsity wrestling program to a second place finish at the recent John Zehnder Duals in Elk Grove.

He pinned Ponderosa standout Paul Buchanan in a huge upper-weight showdown between two of the best in the entire Sac-Joaquin Section.

He earns Athlete of the Week honor for his effort.

Buchanan is ranked No. 3 in the Sac-Joaquin Section in the Oakdale Leader’s SJS rankings for the California Wrestling Newsletter.

Gilstrap is ranked first, and is well on his way to a huge senior season.

Correction...he pinned Jarret McAdams, not Paul Buchanan.
